Hi everybody, how’s the weather where you are at? No matter what it is I bet you or someone you know has had a cold! Well if you have then you know how miserable they can be. I use my Breath Easy to get relief. Last week my daughter had a cold but this time her ears started to bother her. She kept saying that one of them hurt and it was hard to hear from. So I did what I always do: I Googled! I looked at many ideas on how to treat ear aches naturally and decided that ear drops are probably the best way to start since the drops will hit the spot that’s hurting. Weighing out the different options for ingredients I went with garlic and mullein infused olive oil. Here’s why: Olive oil, absorbs well and long shelf life. Garlic is antibacterial and antiviral as well as reduces swelling ( you can find that information here and here.) Mullein is antibacterial as well (read it here).
Does it work? Heck ya! After one application to each ear my daughters symptoms totally disappeared. This is my go-to from here on out for earaches! Want to make it? Ok, here we go!
First, get your ingredients
In pan add 1/4 cup dried mullein
Then add 5-6 chopped garlic cloves (I forgot to chop them, easily distracted at times I guess )
Then add just enough olive oil to cover
Now all you need to do is strain it and I do it like this. Put unbleached muslin over big measuring cup (easier to pour from), pour oil in and let strain by hanging from a doorknob. Ring out all the good stuff once it’s cool too.
Pour into bottle and label
I covered the smaller bottle’s label with packing tape because I wanted to warm it up slightly before using.
To use you just warm up lightly (do not get hot or it will hurt). Lay on side with affected ear facing up and drop in 3-5 drops of oil. Leave in for 5 minutes and then put a washrag over ear and flip over so that gravity can help it drain back out. Rub oil around ear if desired to soak in and get max benefits. Repeat every few hours as needed. Store in a cool dark place an it should last for quite a while.
I hope you enjoyed this blog and I answered all your questions. Feel free to comment or ask a question!
